MUSIC & MERCH

Yes Sir, No Sir. returns with their second record This Is Going to Last Forever, a sonic journey through the pivotal moments and relationships of an entire life – childhood angst and joy (“Stand Corrected”); the electricity (“Carried Away”) and obsession (“Your Call”) of infatuation; the up’s (“Automatic Man”) and down’s (“Bored to Death”) of domesticated existence; and the wistful remembrance of moments from a bygone era (“There’s a Difference”). Straddling the line between the romance and pitfalls of nostalgia, YSNS has crafted 10 songs designed to capture these moments in time so that they live on forever (quite literally the premise of “Or Blood”). Also, there’s a song where the band robs a bank (“The Spiritus Heist”).

Musically, the songs embody the dichotomy inherent within the band’s name. Sparse, atmospheric low-end grooves give way to anthemic, maximalist guitar revelry. Gothic baritone lead vocals cut through complementary swirling layers of 60s pop falsetto. 80s new wave/post punk and earnest 00s indie co-exist, tied together by unabashed big rock production. Eschewing standard “verse-bridge-chorus-repeat” structures, the songs instead propel forward organically like a spontaneous night drive (a recommended listening environment), hopefully arriving at a destination where they will indeed live on forever.

This Is Going to Last Forever was written and performed by Yes Sir, No Sir. but arrived at its full potential thanks to the producing, mixing, and mastering talents of Kevin Butler at Test Tube Audio in Austin, TX.
